At 22 years old, Ancy found herself pregnant and attempting to graduate college. Growing up in foster care, Ancy had her fair share of struggles but nonetheless, she persisted in order to provide for her son.
After learning about Villages of Hope, Ancy applied for the program. With safe and stable housing, she was able to focus on school and be a great mom for her son. Ancy graduated and yearned to continue her education in nursing. She went from surviving to thriving and made the decision to go on to nursing school. Staff at Villages of Hope immediately stepped up to guide her and assist with resources.
“When I started nursing school, I was stressed about how I was going to pay my bills,” Ancy recalled. “But Villages of Hope gave me a scholarship to help me get through the prerequisites.”
Because of the life-skills and mentoring Ancy has received at Villages of Hope, she is on track to graduate from nursing school with the goal of buying her own home! She is determined to give her son the life she never had. Villages of Hope modeled for Ancy how to live as a healthy and successful mom and young woman.
“Being able to give my son a safe place to live with a lot of space to run around has been really helpful,” Ancy said. “It’s a great community to be a part of.”
Villages of Hope Director, Theresa Peak, says the current cost of housing has increased the need for this affordable, transitional housing.
“If we have someone that is homeless, we want to make sure that we are giving them all the essentials they need so they can go out and be a productive adult in society,” Theresa said.
“I truly have no words,” Ancy said. “It’s been an amazing program for me.”
Ancy is ending child abuse and homelessness for her family and starting a new generation!
