For the past two years, Joann’s Cottage has been more than just a place to stay for Charkeevia — it has been a home of healing, hope, and transformation.

She arrived at Place of Hope carrying the weight of unimaginable loss: the passing of her beloved aunt, who had been her caregiver, protector, and the one person who made her feel truly safe and unconditionally loved. In the midst of heartbreak, Charkeevia found herself at a crossroads.

But within the loving, supportive environment of Joann’s Cottage, she began to rebuild her life. Just eight months after arriving, she welcomed a healthy baby girl — the start of a beautiful new chapter.

With unwavering determination, Charkeevia balanced new motherhood, a steady job, and her education — graduating high school with honors while caring for her daughter and holding a job for over a year and a half.

This summer, she is taking the next big step toward her dream: enrolling in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course, with the ultimate goal of becoming a nurse. Her passion? To create a better life for her daughter and to give back by helping others through healthcare.

“I’m thankful for my family, friends, and especially my daughter, who has inspired me in more ways than I can count. She’s taught me strength and the true meaning of unconditional love. Her presence in my life pushes me to strive for more and never settle.”

Charkeevia’s journey is a powerful reminder that with love, support, and perseverance, brighter days are always possible. We are so proud of you, Charkeevia!
